To say the pandemic has been a difficult time for everyone especially for the moms and female family members out there would be a significant understatement.
So taking the time and getting creative to show how much you value, love, care and appreciate all that she’s done will definitely warm her heart and although we can’t celebrate it like the previous years before Covid hit, here are some ideas to help celebrate Mother’s Day with that special someone!
This is a great opportunity for everyone to pitch in and help. If you aren’t so much a five-star chef, you can always opt-out and order take-out for example ordering from her favourite restaurant but don’t forget to end that delicious meal with a yummy dessert!
Self-care for moms is so important especially in times like these, whether we’re in lockdown or not! Give her a mini-spa kit that includes her favourite lotion, bubble bath, bath bombs, essential oils or a nice bathrobe/sleeper set. And if she is the type that likes to read books, exercise or meditate give her “me time.” Encouraging her time for herself is essential and helps reduce stress. After all, she deserves it!
Sit down and take some time to gather some of your memorable/special pictures of you and your mom that have been taken over the years and get creative! Another great idea is to have each family member help by adding their own personal touch such adding a meaningful message. This meaningful gift will not only be a keepsake but she’ll definitely love reminiscing about all the family’s memorable moments.
Scrap booking can be daunting but if you are having a tough time where to start, there are so many DIY scrap booking tutorials that you can find online to help.
Getting outside and enjoying the outdoors is also another great way to celebrate with those plant-loving mommas. Help pull weeds, plant seeds, clean her flower beds or do some landscaping. At the end of the day, pull out her favorite outdoor chair and let her admire her lovely garden or nicely clean yard. Make sure to keep a nice cold pitcher of lemonade for her! Also keep in mind that this is also a great opportunity for adult children (who don’t live in the home) can maintain social distancing when outside.
Another great way to help take the burden off of mom is offer to lend a helping hand with housework! By simply offering to clean, cook, do laundry, and handling any of the chores Mom usually takes on herself will allow mom to have some “me time”. Remember less time doing chores more time for mom to relax. What will make it even better? Continue doing the work that helps the home run after Mother’s Day ends.
Put your apron on and get ready to bake! There are plenty of cake recipes online and tons of ideas on baking tips. So if you are feeling overwhelmed or don’t know where to start feel free to go online and jot down some recipes and tips. Getting the little ones to help out which will also make it much more memorable. If you are not completely confident with your baking skills, you can always buy store bought cake mix which is just as good as anything. After all, it’s the thought that counts. Baking a special cake for mom or that special person will truly melt her heart!
Kids will absolutely love this idea! Some ideas might include making a homemade Mother’s Day card, handprint art, dreamcatcher, homemade frame, or homemade jewelry are just a few ideas. As for adult children who want to be more elaborate in making their homemade gift there are ideas ranging from (depending on your creativity and level of talent) knitted blanket, homemade wooden jewelry box, homemade soaps, or even homemade candles. Ideas are endless and there are no boundaries to creativity!
Even though we are encouraged to stay home and stay safe, planning a picnic or bbq (weather permitting) can be another special way to celebrate Mother’s Day even if it’s in your back yard. Packing a picnic with all of mom’s favourite snacks and treats or BBQing her favourite foods will please any mom but don’t forget to make sure you do all the cleaning afterwards.
Gather everyone in the home, a blanket and snuggle in for a family friendly Mother’s Day themed marathon. Start the popcorn and bring out the gummy worms and let the show begin!
Beforehand make sure to ask mom what are some of movies that she would like to watch as a family the night before so you will have a movie list to choose from and you’re not wasting time scrambling on what to watch.
For those who are not able to be there in-person to show how much they love their mom or that special someone, you can always set up a virtual Mother’s Day Celebration by Zoom or other communication apps which are often free to download. There are so many ideas to make virtual celebration fun. You can plan a game such as bingo, have a costume party, or play a trivial game. Make sure to have everything set up and ready to go beforehand so that everyone will have what they need. You can even make a package of all the tools they need for the celebration and drop it off the night before keeping in mind social distancing. That way everyone will be prepared for the next day.
The pandemic doesn’t have to put a damper on everything and certainly doesn’t have to stop us from celebrating Mother’s Day so take your time planning, look online, gather ideas and make sure to get other family members involved in the process. Finding ideas to celebrate doesn’t have to be extravagant or fancy, just know that whatever or however way you celebrate Mother’s Day remember this is a time to celebrate and appreciate moms or that special someone for all that they’ve done!
